A Dash of Decadence
Once a bedroom, this chocolate brown study was transformed into a serene midcentury escape (The Art of Place, Rizzoli, 2019). The designer of this circa-1980 home, Marvin Watson Jr., was inspired by the design aesthetic of the celebrated American designer Halston. Along with designing clothes for celebrities worn on the dance floor of Studio 54, Halston was known for creating minimalist modern interiors with a dash of decadence. Take a cue from the fashion maestro to recreate this look in your home office. A luxurious Turkish rug pairs well with a sleek Florence Knoll desk and Platner armchairs with acid green upholstery. It’s all about using neutrals with bursts of color and mixing the simple with the lush, like a small potted plant with sculptural lighting and/or brown painted walls with abstract artwork.
