Letter from MH+D

LETTER FROM MH+D-May 2009

by Kevin Thomas and Susan Grisanti Kelley Photography Irvin Serrano

Thoreau’s advice to “Live the life you have imagined” has been a mantra of ours as of late. We’ve all recognized, at our own personal moments of reckoning, how easy it is to get sidetracked in life, to be distracted by petty concerns and shallow endeavors, or have felt confused by well-meaning advice. But to stay focused on the true self, to live the life we have imagined, brings great reward.

Each and every day we find ourselves grateful and exceedingly satisfied to spend our days chronicling the best that Maine has to offer. We both share a sincere love for the creative culture of Maine, writing that reaches the heart, and photographic images that capture more than just the surface of an object. Indeed we are blessed to have this job of presenting Maine Home+Design to you every month.

The sincerity of our efforts has not gone unnoticed. Maine Home+Design was honored to be asked by the Camden Rockport Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce and the Maine Contractors and Builders Alliance to collaborate with them to produce the MH+D Midcoast Home Show on May 30–31. We are well on our way to gathering 100 home and design exhibitors to present to several hundreds of visitors throughout Maine and beyond. And, we recently played a major role in the Portland Flower Show, where we met thousands of readers and distributed as many magazines over the course of four days.

The summer is full of similar commitments and opportunities to be out in Maine meeting more of our readers and learning about exciting new projects. We hope to see you at one, or all, of those events. Check out the MH+D in the Community column (page 18) to see our schedule.

In the meantime, we hope the lineup in this issue enriches the life that you are living.
