Design Wire – February 2016

PDT ARCHITECTS won an international school-design award for Mt. Blue Campus in Farmington. The 2015 Lee J. Brockway Award is given by the Association for Learning Environments (formerly CEFPI, the Council for Educational Facility Planning International) during the association’s annual competition and exhibition of international school architectural design. Mt. Blue is a combined academic and career technical high school for 950 students and underwent a three-year renovation/addition makeover that opened in 2013. The design integrates academic and technical disciplines in three learning communities in one building, giving students flexibility to follow broad interests through the curriculum. Consultants on the project include Frank Locker Educational Planning, Lincoln/Haney Engineering Associates, Bennett Engineering, TabbTech, Cavanaugh Tocci Associates, J & M Lighting Design, TJM Consulting, and then DeLuca-Hoffman Associates (now Stantec). The building was built by WRIGHT-RYAN CONSTRUCTION of Portland.

PAUL LEWANDOWSKI, IIDA, AIA, has joined LAVALLEE BRENSINGER ARCHITECTS as design principal and leader of the workplace studio. Lavallee Brensinger has been working in Maine for more than 20 years and has recently opened a new Portland office in the Baxter Place Building at 305 Commercial Street. The new studio will be a highly collaborative workplace, accommodating local staff as well as staff from the firm’s Manchester and Boston offices.
