When it comes to designing a space, Louisa Pierce and Emily Ward believe in organized abundance, ungaudy decadence, and unbridled collections—with just a hint of restraint for good measure. “Pierce and Ward homes possess qualities that one might look for in a lover…beauty, character, strength, sensuality, and a dash of humor,” states the designers’ book A Tale of Interiors (Rizzoli 2020). The duo draws from many eras and cultures, looking for connections in each piece while blending luxury and simplicity. For this particular space, Pierce and Ward used traditional wallpaper and deep, earthy colors as the backdrop for bolder, modern pieces, such as the blue velvet Eero Saarinen executive chairs and a geometric chandelier. A vibrant abstract painting anchors the color palette and allows for more color play as the room continues to evolve.
