Mountain High

STYLE ROOM – January 2015
By Jen DeRose

I‘ve rented a house at Sugarloaf for the season, and it has me dreaming of decorating my own ski chalet. In this living room, a broad span of glass frames a stunning alpine view of snowy conifers, and concrete and pine planks make for a subdued, simple palette. I’d fill my own space with midcentury-modern furniture, including a rich cognac leather chair and a sleek chrome and glass table, which feature clean lines and contemporary finishes. Then I’d mix in natural materials and layer in warm charcoal and heather grays. A few elements to elevate the cozy factor, such as a waxed canvas log carrier for wood fires and a wool Pendleton throw for wrapping up in, are the finishing touches. The look is quiet, cozy, and casual— exactly the way a mountain getaway should be.
