Sophistication at Work
STYLE ROOM-August 2011
by Nicki Bongiorno
While each of the seasons in Maine brings its own sense of joy, I am happiest in the summer by the sea. I like to leave a little bit of this happiness in every room I design. I work from home and was drawn to design a home office. This space would be an eclectic mix of functional pieces with a touch of the unexpected. The blue and white palette has been done before, but I never tire of it. The moody shade of grayish blue wraps the room in soft color and creates the perfect backdrop for the white lacquer furniture. I love the way the fabric tote and the pillow’s hand-blocked prints coordinate without being too matchy-matchy. The desk is made from hand-planed mango wood, and its natural elements mix well with the more modern, iconic elements of the Eames chair and the pendant light. I like things organized, so my dream office has lots of catchalls. These vintage-inspired glass cups are ideal for pencils, pens, and clips. And, should I need a place to relax and recharge, I would escape to a daybed where I could dream about my next design project!
