LETTER FROM THE EDITOR-January/February 2011
By Susan Grisanti
A new beginning is a tempting theme—and for the first issue of the New Year its lure is hard to resist for this editor’s note. We all, at the start of each year, have hopes for growth and
renewal. But the truth is that sometimes a fresh start requires a rebirth. And rebirths are rarely easy. It takes courage and hard work to step a little further forward and to keep exploring towards something new.
The staff at MH+D has been refining and sharpening both the content and design of the magazine. Art director Kate Gable and managing editor Rebecca Falzano and the entire team have worked tirelessly to add new content to our lineup and to bring a fresh look and feel to existing features.
Each month, in our newest column, Style Room (page 28), an interior designer creates a design board and shares ideas for the most stylish rooms in the state. This month Deborah Chatfield details her dining room design from fabrics to flatware.
And every month in A Real Estate at the opening to our Real Estate section (page 87), we will select a particularly intriguing home that is on the market and produce a mini feature—to satisfy all of us who love to look and dream about a new home.
You will notice a newly expanded and freshly designed The Canvas section that gives you a closer look at the work of Maine’s immensely talented artists. And as always we’re working to bring you inside the most beautiful homes in the state—and to share with you the spirit and uniqueness of those who create, build, and live in them.
I sincerely hope that you agree that our hard work has paid off —and that we have added some joy and inspiration to your new year.
