LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
LETTER FROM THE EDITOR-Nov/Dec 2009 by Susan Grisanti Kelley Photography Irvin Serrano
Newness fills the air these days.
In just a few short months, we’ve launched a new magazine, moved into new offices, and joined forces with a new group of colleagues. While the changes have enlivened us with renewed creative energy, they’ve also further solidified our already close-knit staff as more than just a team—as a reckonable force of creative, passionate, supportive, and collaborative individuals.
As the year comes to its end and we settle into our new digs, we at Maine Home+Design are reminded that not everything is new. In fact, next month’s issue marks the start of our fourth year as Maine’s premier design authority and sole shelter publication. What hasn’t changed is our mission to publish the best this state has to offer in design, art, and culture. And just like in the beginning, we work tirelessly to give you a discerning, sophisticated glimpse into the ever-astonishing talent of Maine craftspeople, builders, architects, designers, artisans, artists, and food purveyors in the way we write, photograph, and interact with the community.
This issue is brimming with examples of that talent: a sophisticated retreat in Woolwich that brings the concept of “log home” to a new level, a stop at Portland’s creativity-infused indie shop Ferdinand, a glimpse into the lives of multi-talented artists and vegetable growers Susan and Rufus Williams, the worldly inspiration behind Brunswick’s Frontier Cafe, Cinema, and Gallery…the list goes on and on.
Before this issue went to press, the MH+D team gathered for a photo shoot in our new office space. In between the camera flashes, we reconnected, remembering who we are and how far we’ve come—together. For you, the reader.
Thanks for sticking around for the ride.
