Originally built in 1972, this home was recently purchased by an American couple currently living in London with their young children. The owners envisioned an updated, contemporary home that maintains much of the existing structure.

Boothbay- and Portland-based Knickerbocker Group was hired to give the poorly proportioned ’70s-style builder spec-house some exterior massing changes, primarily in the roof forms, to achieve the crisp, clean lines the homeowners desire. All-new finishes include pure white clapboard siding with Cembonit accents at the entry and chimney, a pop of color to announce the front door, and new windows and doors to highlight the views the homeowners want and to downplay those they don’t. Interior reconfigurations will be kept to a minimum, with the primary focus on opening up the living room, raising ceiling heights, establishing a better connection to the exterior, and creating a new master suite. The new interior palette will be a balance of warm wood tones and neutral hues set against a backdrop of sleek, clean modern lines.
