1.) WOODLAWN MUSEUM in Ellsworth is planning a design forum called Woodlawn 2.0—Redesigned for 21st-Century Living. Three architects have been invited to present their concepts and renderings for a modern-day redesign of the museum’s main house, the Black House, a Federal-style house with Greek Revival overtones. SEALANDER ARCHITECTS in Ellsworth, DESIGN GROUP COLLABORATIVE in Ellsworth, and ELLIOTT AND ELLIOTT ARCHITECTURE in Blue Hill will present their renderings, and Camden architect CHRISTOPHER GLASS will be the keynote speaker.
2.) CHILTON FURNITURE is partnering with Tappan Chairs of Sandwich, New Hampshire, and the SABBATHDAY LAKE SHAKERS in New Gloucester, Maine, to reproduce two iconic Shaker chairs from the mid-nineteenth century. This partnership is the first time that Sabbathday Lake has collaborated with an outside manufacturer on the production of one of its iconic chairs. The chairs are on display at Chilton Furniture in Scarborough and Freeport and in the Shaker Museum Reception Center in New Gloucester.
3.) Construction has begun in Brewer on what will be one of the largest Passive House developments in the United States. Slated to open in April 2016, Village Centre Apartments will be a 48-unit affordable housing complex. THORNTON TOMASETTI is managing the Passive House certification work. The $9.5 million project stems from a complex partnership involving Community Housing of Maine, MaineHousing, the Northern New England Housing Investment Fund, TD Bank, and the City of Brewer. Other players on the project include CWS ARCHITECTS, BENNETT ENGINEERING, BECKER STRUCTURAL ENGINEERS, and WRIGHT-RYAN CONSTRUCTION.
