William Borders, 2010, watercolor on paper, 10” x 12.5” by Gary Akers, b. 1951. In 1980, Akers was introduced by a friend to three bachelor brothers living on a 176-acre farm in Kentucky. The Borderses’ farm and the three brothers, William, Elmer, and Woodrow (Woody), became a favorite subject for the artist. He painted the family and their homestead until the farm sold in 1991.
