Ralston’s well-known image of shorn sheep being towed by a fishing trawler was shot from the pitching bow of a boat
driven by his good friend, Philip Conkling. The sheep, which were being transported to Allen Island at the request of Betsy Wyeth,
wound up in the dory after the fishing boat captain refused to allow them aboard his boat. “I kept yelling, ‘Philip, get me closer,’
and he hit the throttle and drove the bow right into the stern of the dory. I got one exposure and it ended up being this image
that everybody knows,” says Ralston. “Andy [Wyeth] said, ‘This is your Christina’s World.’”
