Willard Carroll says, “Collecting began innocently enough for me—seeing The Wizard of Oz once a year on television, reading as many of the books as I could find, and wanting to be surrounded with reminders of a story and characters that were continually comforting.” Here, Carroll stands in front off an original two-panel poster for the 1940 French release of MGM’s The Wizard of Oz. World War II began in Europe in September 1939, two weeks after the American Oz premiere. While some countries showed Oz in 1940, many had to wait until 1945 when the war ended.
