Oz Comes to Peyton Place
The appeal of The Wizard of Oz and its merchandise is limitless. Tie-ins such as the framed Par-T-Masks in the background allowed fans to take home a bit of Oz at the time of the film’s original release in 1939. Unlicensed products such as the bronze cottage-industry Tin Man flowed into the market after the book and its characters entered the public domain in 1956. Newly illustrated editions of the book continue to be published today.
