Light shelves above the window allow filtered light into the lower part of the room, while also reflecting light toward the ceiling. The shelves were fabricated by Jon Chalfant and are part of a lighting plan developed by Greg Day of DayMatero Studio in Bath. The sectional sofa in the background was designed by Mathias Hoffmann for ROLF BENZ/hülsta Studio. The walls of the home are largely white, but splashes of color are used selectively throughout. Portland painter George Lloyd’s painting Paesaggio Romano hangs above the gas fireplace. Lloyd painted the piece after spending time as a visiting artist at the American Academy in Rome. “How,” Lloyd says, about the frustration of picking a painting for the room, “do you compete with that big glassed-in exterior?”
