“These rooms are allowed to live, love and show their laugh lines,” writes Lisa Borgnes Giramonti of the literary-inspired spaces featured in Novel Interiors. This mudroom, with its divided cubbies, shoe storage, and straw baskets, helps keep everyone in the family organized for the busy reality of how we live today. But with plenty of art, accessories, and splashes of color, it’s a design scheme that’s hardly by the book. A bright bench provides a perch to put on shoes or place packages, and a handsome coat hook keeps jackets handy and neatly hung. A front door in a high-octane hue-Benjamin Moore’s Apple Green-punctuated by textured steel house numbers created an eye-catching entrance, while a wall sconce provides key lighting in this small space. Today’s hectic lifestyles are unfortunately more fact than fiction, but that doesn’t mean a welcoming, well-organized entry has to be a fairy tale.
