Letter from the Editor- Jan/Feb

By Rebecca Falzano and Heidi Kirn

New Year’s evolutions.

While this is the time of year when people are making resolutions, we do our best to steer clear of them.

Instead we prefer evolutions. Small, subtle changes to the pages of Maine Home+Design that refresh the way we present design across the state. We are always asking ourselves, “how can we make our pages better?” In this issue you may notice a few of our evolutions. You may not. But what you will see is this: our unwavering commitment to championing our state’s incredible architecture and design.

In this first issue of 2012, we feature a superinsulated home in Belfast designed by a couple looking to cut energy costs and eliminate reliance on fossil fuels (page 24). A family farmhouse in Freeport that was passionately pieced together over the years with some help from Uncle Henry’s (page 42). And a log home in Sugarloaf with Eastern influences and a New Orleans twist (page 53). As always, we bring you the usual blend of craftsmanship and thoughtfulness—proof that, in the home as on our pages, the small decisions can make just as much of an impact as the big ones.
